Area preschools and daycares will be on hand in our children’s room to talk about their programs, distribute information, and answer your questions regarding philosophies, curriculum, tuition, and enrollment. Even if you've already registered for a program, or if your child is not ready for preschool yet, this showcase is still worth a visit. This is your chance to talk one-on-one with program representatives to have all your questions answered so you can feel comfortable that you've found or will find the right fit for your child. Feel free to bring friends and neighbors!
On Saturday, January 7th, author and illustrator Nancy Elizabeth Wallace visited our library to share one of her stories, demonstrate her cup-paper technique, and lead participants in their own cut-paper activity. What amazing artists we have in our community! It was a wonderful program, and parents and children alike thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
The Beekley Libary introduces a new family early literacy program called "Beekley Book Buddies" for children ages birth through five. Through this program, families will have the opportunity to share 1000 stories with their children and perform a variety of fun activities that support early literacy skills. Sounds like a lot? Don't worry, it's easy!
Upon registration, families will receive a binder containing early literacy information, their first log sheet for 100 books, and three activity sheets that can be kept in the binders. Every time your child shares a story with someone, one space can be filled in. If they heard it three times in a row, three spaces can be filled in. Before you know it, 100 stories have been read. Once the first log sheet has been completed and the three activities have been accomplished, you can come to the library for your next log sheet and choose three more activities. Upon completion of the program (which can be done AT YOUR OWN PACE - no deadlines!), your child will receive a certificate and a new book. The best thing that they will receive, though, is the opportunity to strengthen their early literacy skills with their families!
If you are interested in signing your young child up for Beekley Book Buddies (and remember, you're never too young to start!), see Miss Ericka during the following hours:
Tuesday 10-4
Wednesday 11-2
Thursday 11-1:30
Friday 11-1:30
And most Saturdays from 9-3
We have a new item in our children's collection that parents, grandparents, sitters, and teachers can enjoy: a Story Kit. Our first Story Kit is called ABC/123, and includes everything you need to explore the alphabet and numbers. The kit comes in a box you can check out, and includes books, a DVD and music CD, as well as activity pages, games, and puzzles, all related to the theme. You'll find it on the table by the big windows in the children's room, so come and check it out!
